Introduction
Numerical control systems (NCS), short for numerical control systems , initially evolved in parallel with computers. These systems, used to control automated manufacturing equipment, consisted of specialized controllers with computing power, comprised of hardware circuits such as vacuum tubes and relays.

This was known as hardware numerical control (Hard NC). Since the 1970s, these discrete hardware electronic components have been gradually replaced by more highly integrated computer processors, resulting in the development of computer numerical control systems (CNCs).
A computer numerical control (CNC) system uses a computer to control machining functions and implement numerical control. A CNC system is a specialized computer system equipped with interface circuits and servo drives, executing some or all numerical control functions according to a control program stored in the computer’s memory.
It controls the motion of one or more mechanical devices using digital instructions composed of numbers, text, and symbols, typically controlling mechanical and switching variables such as position, angle, and speed.
Composition of a CNC Control System
The CNC system consists of a numerical control program storage device (from early paper tapes to magnetic rings, to magnetic tapes, disks and common hard disks for computers), a computer control host (evolved from dedicated computers to computers with PC architecture), a programmable logic controller (PLC), a spindle drive device and a feed (servo) drive device (including a detection device), etc.
With the gradual use of general-purpose computers, CNC systems have become increasingly software-based, and PLCs have replaced traditional machine tool electrical logic control devices, making the system smaller, more flexible, more versatile, and more reliable. It is easy to implement complex CNC functions, and is convenient to use and maintain. It also has the function of connecting to the network and conducting remote communication.
